**Description:**

**Position Purpose:**

The Surgical Technologist First Assist, under the direction of a Registered Nurse, will provide patient care in an atmosphere sensitive to each person’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. Under the RN’s direction, sets up, and maintains the surgical field and assists the surgeon during operative procedures.

**What you will do:**

+ The surgical first assistant performs within the scope of service allowed by Mount Carmel Health System, even though they may have received training on tasks beyond what is allowable by the MCHS Scope for non-physician first assistants.
+ Performs observable, technical behaviors (cognitive, psychomotor, and affective) as delegated by the surgeon. Practices within boundaries set by state and federal regulation and/or licensure in a non-physician role.
