Course Information

NURSING 1080A is a foundational first‑year clinical practice course that introduces students to the core principles of nursing care in both simulated and real‑world environments. The course is designed to help students develop essential competencies such as therapeutic communication, basic personal care skills, professionalism, and patient safety, while building confidence in working with patients for the first time.

A defining feature of the course is its combined structure of SIM/placement which supports a gradual transition into practice. At the start of the term, students participate in simulation (SIM) weeks in Western’s clinical learning labs, where they practice skills in a controlled and supportive environment.
