Job Description
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Corrections Officer.
The successful applicant will perform the duties and responsibilities of a Corrections Officer. Starting pay is $27.25* an hour, $59,514 annually (*effective 1/1/2026) Shift schedules are 12 hour days, in a rotating 2 week schedule.
Officers work 15 days a month with this cycle.
Probationary officers will be assigned to a day shift (6am-6pm) or night shift (6pm-6am) based on operational needs.
After probation, officers can bid on shifts based on seniority. The Winnebago County Jail is the 2nd largest county jail in the state, with a bed size of 1,313 and an average daily population of 750 inmates.
Specialized opportunities and positions include K9, Field Training Officer, CERT, Gang Unit, Court Officer, Firearms Instructor, and more.
