The new appointment will join a team of eight Medical Gastroenterologists (6 Luminal, 2 Liver) who work as a single team, sharing responsibility for the management of inpatients. Management of outpatients is split into the Liver and Luminal teams. We have an excellent day‑case unit exclusively for GI services which, along with our 3 Hepatology specialist nurses, allows us to deliver ambulatory care for patients with liver disease including nurse‑led early discharge clinic, monitoring and assessment of patients with acute and chronic liver disease and day case paracentesis.

The department has received significant investment over the last 18 months, with a new £4.99m unit which opened in December 2023.
