About the Role

Whangarei Hospital is a 250‑bedded District General Hospital with all the major specialities including ICU. The Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora team consists of 5.5 FTE, made up of NewZealanders and Brits. The post is based at the hospital but provides care for older people across the whole of Northland km², people) and includes support for three rural community hospitals.

We recently redesigned the service and now run a 10–12‑bed Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) Unit that manages patients with acute medical problems and frailty. The multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaborates with the Emergency Department on a front‑door Frailty service to keep patients independent for as long as possible.

The Health of Older People team also runs a 20‑bed rehabilitation ward (mixed orthopaedic, stroke and general rehab) and a five‑day‑a‑week orthogeriatric service to the orthopaedic ward. There is an opportunity to lead and further these services, and the...
